DFI LANParty UT P55 Board First Look
The guys at VR-Zone has their first look on the much anticipated LANParty UT P55 motherboard, which relies on is fully on digital PWM. The motherboard also appears to have a dedicated slot for NAND flash. Also, DFI will be using Flame Freezer for the chipst cooling department as well. On closer examination, there is a mini USB port on the IO backpanel.
The website claims that DFI refused to say anything but gave a clue that the BIOS is a breakthrough for motherboard technologies. It looks like DFI could be early to adopt the UEFI interface. This mystery will be unravelled at Computex Taipei 2009 where DFI will officially be announcing this board there.

Core i5 Will Have A Lower QPI Multiplier
Expreview claims that Intel’s Core i5 (Lynnfield) will feature a lower QPI multiplier than Core i7. Intel’s 5 Series motherboards will be switched to single-chip design, and the PCIE 2.0 controller will be integrated into the CPU itself. Even this they use QPI bus inside the CPU to connect the PCIE interface, and use the DMI bus to connect with the ICH.
As we know, QPI restricts the CPU’s overclocking performance. Take the Core i7 965 as an example, it comes with 6.4GT/s QPI data rate, 24x multiplier and 133MHz BCLK. Due to the limit of QPI speed (8GT/s), its maximum BCLK can only achieve 166MHz at 24x.
But the website claims that the QPI multiplier of Core i5 will be set even lower at 16x, so you’ll get a higher BCLK around 250MHz. When you overclock the BCLK, the QPI interface will overclock as well.

First Look at Radeon HD 4770 CrossFire Benchmark
According to Expreview's test, the HD 4770 CrossFire brings more than 80% 3D performance improvements, superior to HD 4890 nearly by 20%. When loaded by 3D tasks, the CrossFire platform sees about 80-100W power consumption increase compared with single HD 4890, but it still consumes less power than the HD 4890 does.
On the other hand, PowerPlay function disables the automatic decrease of GDDR5 memory clock, so HD 4770 CrossFire brings a bit higher power consumption than HD 4890 when idling or playing videos. It is believed that the upcoming non-reference cards will see an improvement in this.

ATI's HD 4770: The First 40nm GPU
THE RACE TO be the first 40nm GPU on the market is over, and despite some early signs, ATI wins with the RV740/HD 4770. The chip was meant to come out last December 2008, but due to the TSMC glitches bit and leakage became the overriding problem. Luckily, ATI actually seems to have followed the DFM rules rather than believing arrogance without a coherent QA program can bend the laws of physics. That is why the HD 4770 is the first 40nm GPU on sale.
It is not a high-end part though, it slots between the 4670 and the 4850, closer to the latter than the former in performance, and will undoubtedly kill the more expensive to make 4830. On the NVIDIA side, it sits on top of the vanilla 9800 (or is it the GT239XXX this week?), meaning margins in Santa Clara should shrink a bit in Q1.
The raw specs are a 750MHz core clock, 640 shaders, 32 texture units and 512M of 800MHz GDDR5 on a 128-bit bus. As far as silicon is concerned, the chip is built on the much criticised TSMC 40nm process, and packs 826 million transistors into 134mm2. Power consumption is a little high for a new process at 80W, but that exactly splits the difference between the 4670 and the 4850. The HD 4770 will retail for below $100 (RM350). ~ The Inquirer | AMD
